Frequently Asked Questions

Mission Goals:

  • What will we be doing for work projects? Typically, we work on a house-building project or various projects around the campus of Mission Emanuel. This work not only serves the community, but enhances the local leaders' ministries and supports their vision.
  • What will the kids be doing? Children will be invited to work alongside us on work projects - and we make sure to include them in every possible way. We'll also plan a outreach for area children in the afternoons, which is a terrific way to involve young ones. For our younger kids, we'll work with each family, to provide areas and moments of rest.

Payment + Travel:

  • What is the deposit?  A deposit of $250 per traveler can be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church.  Online option: just select the "Dominican Republic" fund and enter the amount; select "give once"; then "Continue".
  • When do I have to pay the balance? By June 15, 2024.  Payments can be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church. Participants can submit a check or pay online here.  Just select the "Dominican Republic" fund and enter the amount to proceed.
  • What's the weather like? Expect the weather to be just like ours in the 80s and 90s with spontaneous rain showers.
  • What is the dress code?  We'll go over this in our team meetings, but we'll wear appropriate clothes for church services and worksites.
  • How will I get from the airport to where I need to go?  Mission Emanuel will handle all your transport upon your arrival until your trip departure.
  • Do I need any immunizations before traveling?  We recommend following all US State Department guidelines. Here's a link to the latest recommendations.

Safety + Accommodations:

  • What are the sleeping arrangements? We stay in a lovely hotel, the Dominican Fiesta in Santo Domingo. Mission Emanuel staff will work with us to provide the room that works for each person/family
  • Can I drink the water? We will have purified water for all participants.
  • Can you accommodate my dietary needs? Most likely! Please let us know ahead of time.
  • What are the safety concerns? Mainly, sun exposure and dehydration. But we'll take plenty of breaks to apply sunscreen and drink water.
